We see actors/actresses perform in various films, and it is amazing to see how talented they are in connecting their viewers. We are able to relate and be comforted with the work they do. It’s great to witness their growth in development. For instance, Chun Woo Hee was featured in some films called ‘Mother’, ‘Sunny’, and ‘Elegant Lie’, but she didn’t gain her fame until finishing her latest movie ‘Han Gong-ju’. Thereafter, Chun Woo Hee has been very busy filming other movies such as ‘Haeohwa’ and ‘Gokseong’, which will be launching this April and May. Finally, her countless years of hard work and patience was paid off when she received recognition at the Asian Film Awards (AFA), one of the largest film festivals in Asia.

It was your first time participating in the Asian Film Festival. What was the most memorable moment there?

I think the most memorable time for me was going up on stage. I was just proud by the fact that I was there to represent Korea at one of the largest film festivals in Asia.

The movie ‘Haeohwa’ recently launched this month. What was your personal goal for acting in this movie?

In this movie, I tried to show that I am capable of acting different roles. For example, in ‘Haeohwa’, I shared my singing skills, lyrical writing, dancing and wearing Western clothes. It felt like a talent show where I was performing everything that I could do.

Your new movie coming out in May called ‘Gokseong’ seems to have been a lot of work because the cover photo is filled with rigorous mountains.

Yes it’s undeniable that my body was physically exhausted from all the work we did while filming. But I still had an enjoyable time and felt refreshed by the surrounding nature. I was more energized than tired.

I heard you recently moved. How does it feel to live alone?

Great. I really enjoy resting in bed and doing absolutely nothing (laughs). But I still like to cook. I just don’t do it often because I get lazy when it comes to washing dishes. I also don’t have to worry about getting eggs, because my parents recently started raising chickens to produce eggs to give to our family.

I heard you are going to be filming a new movie called ‘My Angel’, which is about an insurance investigator who witnesses a woman committing suicide when her husband is in a vegetative state. What made you choose this mellow movie?

The genres of Korean movies today are overly emphasized. So I felt a movie like this would be good to have, and that’s why I decided to partake in this film.

Actress Chun Woo Hee is someone who always plays difficult roles. Do you ever feel overwhelming when a new character is assigned to you?

I haven’t felt that way in the beginning, but I’m slowly feeling it now. Ever since I received awards at the film festival, it became harder for me to make my own decision. However, I try to keep a firm stance on everything. If I have walked a light path in the past, I am going to be more serious as I walk this new path towards my destination. Through filming more movies in the future, I want to gain as much experiences possible, and this is going motivate me further on in life.

As an actress, do you have times when you feel that you’re influencing your viewers? If so, how do you want to be remembered as?

After filming a movie called ‘Han Gong-ju’, it’s true that my expectation level for work and success went up. I think it’d be if female actresses can have the power to influence the public and see where the limits take them. But mind me, that is not my ultimate goal. The only thing that I look forward to is finding that my viewers are able to understand and trust my acting.

Movies are industries with dreams. It requires the driving force of many actors, actresses, directors, etc. They have to work together to make the dream possible. For that reason, Champagne House Moet & Chandon, which is a brand that foreholds those meanings of dream and power of influence, is participating in the Asian Awards Film and sponsoring many film industries. Moet & Chandon has also been giving out the ‘Excellence Award Moet & Chandon’ since 2012, and began the ‘Rising Star Award’ in 2014. Therefore, Director Lee Su Jin and Chun Woo Hee had the honor of receiving the ‘Excellence Moet & Chandon Award’ and ‘Rising Star Award’ for filming ‘Han Gong-ju’ at the 2016 Asian Film Awards.
